The best way to watch the sequel of something you love? With alcohol and friends. Which we proved tonight while watching "Ashes to Ashes" on BBC America. Participants: Me=Ceylon, H=Hystrix, EB=Electric Boogalo, K=Kryptic. continue reading »
He was waiting for her, and she wasn’t sure whether she had expected that or not.
This review is a bit late, but it has one message: If you haven’t yet seen “Coraline,” go now.
How’s the Lamborghini?” Trey swirled the egg nog in his glass as if it were the very finest wine and tried to sound completely casual as he asked it.
He stayed away from her for a very long time. He sent someone to fix her heat and her oven, and, as the weather grew warmer, the broken heat wasn't really a big thing anymore, anyhow. She moved back into her apartment, but he did not move into his floor of the house. She supposed she should be grateful for that. She was chiefly disappointed. continue reading »

Things We Love:
The way fresh air smells

My father gave me a Victoria's Secret gift card for Christmas, which is weird on many levels. Firstly, it's not like him: his Christmas gift to me last year was a set of two power drills, and the year before that it was a Dremel and a pocket-knife from the Army surplus store. (I wonder if he didn't confuse his gifts and my sister is somewhere with a Craftsman 4-way convertible screwdriver with magnetic head thinking "...the hell?"). Secondly, it's not like me: it's all very PINK and sparkly and confusing in there. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I just don't get it. I do not, as the store would seem to imply, feel Sexy if I slap some lace over my girl parts. I mostly just feel itchy. But I was told that a properly-fitted bra would Change My Life, and so I found myself last weekend, hovering nervously at the entrance to the Victoria's Secret at my local mall, screwing up my courage to take the plunge and grow up and become a Real (Pink) Girl. At left: NOT ME. continue reading »
Feeling like an idiot, Tucker drove. The Porsche was as zippy and responsive ever, but Tucker's hands on the wheel were tight with tension, and he barely noticed where he was going or what he was doing. His mind turned somersaults over the thing with Tinsley Stewart. She was delectable, yes. But he had met delectable women before. He had done more than just "met" delectable women. And he had never felt this way. He felt, honestly, bewitched. continue reading »

Things we love:
Teas that blossom into flowers.
There is something charming about something that is so unnecessarily beautiful. Regular tea is quite fantastic enough, but then they go and turn it into a delicate flower, just to be pretty. continue reading »
Jean-Marc Trenier, ignoring the stir he was creating, walked into the Harvard Club and paused in front of Perkins' table. The man looked up at him, pretending to be politely curious. Trenier sighed and told himself to keep his temper. But the man was absolutely ridiculous. He was dressed as foppishly as always, brilliantly. And Trenier, who had not slept at all since watching Clara slip safely into her house, was more than usually annoyed by this. continue reading »

Things We Love
The perfect cup of morning coffee.
When you get just the right amount of sweetener and cream blended in, and the coffee's the perfect temp, and the folks who make it got the measurements right...*sigh* Pure heaven.
Tetris Party for Wii.
Taco Bell.
So what if every item tastes the same, it's yummy! It's the one fast food I can eat often and never get tired of. Which come to think of it, probably isn't a good thing...

This week's pick for Great Briton is Kate Winslet.*
Born: Oct. 5, 1975, in Reading, Berkshire, England
Recent projects: Currently starring in both The Reader and Revolutionary Road (both of which won her a Golden Globe this week).
Why she is great: I've actually been meaning to choose Kate Winslet for a while now, and given that she just won two Golden Globes I'd say it's time to shine the spotlight her way. continue reading »
Tucker was a little worse for wear. That had clearly been Kingsley's intention. Kingsley dropped him off at his house with a little wave and went zooming off with the silver Porsche. Tucker frowned after him. Kingsley could be damn clever when he wanted to be. continue reading »
